Living History Makers:
Diane Royster
Organ Recipient
I had been sick for quite awhile. Then, after many tests, it was determined that I needed a liver transplant. I thought this was going to be the end of life for me. In 1989, I received my transplant. This was the beginning of the liver transplant procedure in Pittsburgh and transplants weren't given a lot of attention in the media.
I am very thankful that a family said yes to organ donation. Since then, I have been trying to do everything I can to promote organ donation…especially in the African American Community.
