I lost my dear wife Heddfron on the morning of December 18, 2002 . She’d complained of having a bad headache, so I drove her to St. Mary Medical Center for treatment. That’s where she collapsed, right in the emergency room. But my Heddfron, a woman always willing to help others, wasn’t finished making a mark on this world.

Heddfron was a compassionate, giving and empathetic person. She was also an organ donor, so it made sense to me and to our children and grandchildren that in her death, she would help others. Heddfron donated her kidneys and liver to three people. While I haven’t been in touch with each of them, I have formed a bond with Donna Kinney, a 59-year-old woman who lives in Ohio. I just feel like a part of my wife is still breathing when I see Donna.

I’m going to do everything I can to keep Heddfron’s memory alive. She made an extraordinary decision to become a designated organ donor and I hope that when you renew your license you will do the same.
