Ryan Mohn

Ryan Mohn

Alison Mohn, donor mother
Dauphin County

My son Ryan was in a fatal car accident in January 2004. A month before the accident, Ryan made the important decision to become an organ donor when he passed his driver’s test and received his license. Knowing that his decision helped save the lives of six individuals continues to help our family cope with his death.

Ryan was the quarterback of his high school football team. He had a lot of friends and was highly respected by his classmates. After he heard a talk by a man who was saved by a kidney transplant, Ryan encouraged others to become organ and tissue donors too. It was after Ryan had died that I learned he had done this so it must have been really important to him.

I’m going to do whatever I can to keep Ryan’s memory alive. Good things have already happened as a result of this tragedy and I know there are more good things to come. I hope that people out there who are considering becoming a donor will sign up when they obtain or renew their licenses because it can make a huge difference to the thousands of people who are waiting for life-saving transplants. And speaking from our personal experience, it can help the donors’ families too. I’m comforted by the fact that Ryan made this decision on his own.
